1. One day I dressed it in fine robes
And drew them off, and drew off the finest raiment,

2. In an assembly where singers were crowned
With goblets among refined company,

3. And the birds were entranced by her beautiful singing—
If only they were aware enough to drink from the goblets!

4. The sun turned green with envy
Lest it be like the cheeks of al-‘Abbas.

5. I care not whom I lose in this world
As long as you are present, you are all people!
