1. The zeal of youth still rages within me
Though gray hairs have descended upon my temple

2. And when her ugly voice called out to me
“What's with this pretentious graying?”

3. I swore by the Lord of the glorious Kaaba
In the scene of joy and rapture

4. And by every loosened garment of chastity
With hitched skirt and flowing train

5. And by the slain passion, the wounded string's sanctity
And the oath of the pulsing vein

6. Whenever I swore such an oath foolishly
I was truthful with villains and pillars

7. And I was called the sage of eloquence
Detached from etiquette in my poetry

8. My poems are sold among the Kurds
As if they peak in eloquence when sold among the Arabs

9. I aspired to reach Abu Al-Hassan the Most High
Hoping to attain the Most Noble father from him

10. The encyclopedic Nasiri fatherhood
And the most sublime Alawite lineage

11. Wherein he inherited the fire of prophecy
And every flame paled before the light of truth

12. I do not claim you, but through you I claim
That I have reached the most honorable threshold

13. Through you, God increased Quraish's loftiness
And delighted the eyes of Qusayy son of Kilab

14. Seeking you out as their purpose
Coursing in your lineage through their loins

15. Until you were born and they forgot their lineages
And your existence became the noblest lineage

16. The tongue of Hashim which by nightfall
Twinkles and the eye of the victor over victors

17. I complain to you one eve we did not part
In disagreement or reproach

18. I was nothing but a paradise I left
Unwillingly, so the voice of torment poured upon me

19. I left your home as the sky rained me down
In the hands of clouds, and I cannot see anything without you

20. I persist racing in reaching you
Chasing the steeds of kinship

21. I ran though my staff shortened my stride
To a limp, yet I am the proudest of riders

22. I saw the road was dear and its touch
Was fragrant, prepared for me on clothes

23. The protection of your garb did not lack, missing
My cloak, turban, and outer wrap

24. So I turned, O sea of magnanimity, my clothes
And your brother the rain turned my clothes

25. Two rains, for which
The clouds were created, and it is the progeny of clouds

26. So I reached you complaining of this and thanking that
And for the two rains with their pouring

27. And a bashful bride I was leading to you
Between words that ennobled torment

28. Brought to you by beauty, though modesty
Might have stopped her at the gate

29. I shyly gifted her to one steeped in thoughts
Reaper of the harvest of literature

30. To Abu Al-Quraid the son of meanings, nay my brother
In eloquence when he speaks confusedly and clearly

31. Al-Hussein named him and Musa of rank
In virtue, refusing to be rivaled

32. Look with pleased eye to what I recited
And make its listener forgiving and rewarding

33. Overlook the terrible mistakes and hide them
From the eye of the frowning, reproachful critic

34. Proclaim it if I recite it in a gathering
And stumble upon flaws in its correctness
