1. In which house did I not lodge as a bright moon?
And in what region of blame did I not dwell?

2. What right does this land have, since love is in it,
To be darkened by the stance of one hasty?

3. Whenever tears attend their question,
Tears are more eloquent than the questioner's dwelling.

4. O you, if you have no attainer, then pass by.
And if you are not beautiful, then adorn yourself.

5. Give generously, for if you are not virtuous, then learn—
Except for the benevolence of this excellent minister.

6. Time has destroyed the splendor of my father Abu Nasr.
If we appointed it to bestow youth, it would not refrain.

7. The land whose ruler judges with sufficiency—
My pen and upholding spear are enough for it.

8. O you who hopes for rain, does the disappointed wanderer
Have anything but a dripping from a rainy cloud?

9. I am joyful with the auspices and the meeting of
Your person, Sad, who does not wander.

10. And your overflowing favor—it is the proudest garb.
And your abundant might—it is the strongest refuge.

11. And inform me whenever you wish of my loyalty's essence.
For you is the sincere intention of one adorned.

12. I have never said to a benefactor, "Give to me."
And in obtaining your opinion I have desired—grant it to me.

13. For now success has fulfilled my wish,
Not by your mediation, but by origin and attainment.

14. And I knew that I am favored, and the sign of favor
Is that I have been granted audience with you.
