1. A meadow pleased by the rain's handiwork
As a friend is pleased by a friend
١. وَرَوْضٍ عَنْ صَنِيْعِ الغَيْثِ رَاضٍ
كَمَا رَضِيَ الصَّدِيْقُ عَنِ الصَّدِيْقِ
2. When morning showers make it joyous
It perfects its adornment in the mist
٢. إِذَا مَا الْقَطْرُ أَسْعَدَهُ صَبُوحَاً
أَتَمَّ لَهُ الصَّنِيْعَةَ فِي الغَبُوقِ
3. It mocks the wind with breezes
As though its flowers were pure musk
٣. يُعِيْرُ الرِّيْحَ بِالنَّفَحَاتِ رِيْحَاً
كَأَنَّ ثَرَاهُ مِنْ مِسْكٍ سَحِيْقِ
4. As though the dew were scattered upon it
Remnants of tears on a lover's cheek
٤. كَأَنَّ الطَّلَّ مُنْتَثِرَاً عَلَيْهِ
بَقَايَا الدَّمْعِ فِي خَدِّ المَشُوقِ
5. As though its branches were watered with wine
That rivaled the drink of the pure
٥. كَأَنَّ غُصُونَهُ سُقِيَتْ رَحِيْقَاً
فَمَاسَتَ مِيْسَ شُرَّابِ الرَّحِيْقِ
6. As though the anemones within it
Were blossoms of emerald in goblets
٦. كَأَنَّ شَقَائِقَ النُّعْمَانِ فِيْهِ
مُخَضَّرَةً كُؤُوسٌ مِنْ عَقِيْقِ
7. As though the wild narcissi in it
Were kisses of clay for the creation
٧. كَأَنَّ النَّرْجِسَ البَرِّيَّ فِيْهِ
مَدَاهِنُ مِنْ لُجَيْنٍ لِلْخَلُوقِ
8. Its violets remind me
Of the art of moisture on a delicate cheek
٨. يُذَكِّرُنِي بَنَفْسَجُهُ بَقَايَا
صَنِيْعِ اللَّطْمِ فِي الخَدِّ الرَّقِيْقِ
