1. This early morn of celebration
A day of revelry and wine
١. بَاكِرِ الصُّبْحَةَ هَذَا
يَوْمُ عِيْدٍ وَمُدَامِ
2. See by God, how fine
Are the manners of the clouds
٢. مَا تَرَى بِاللَّهِ مَا
أَحْسَنَ آدَابَ الغَمَامِ
3. The rain began gently at first
Then flowed abundantly
٣. بَدَأَ القَطْرُ بِطَلٍّ
ثُمَّ ثَنَى بِرِهَامِ
4. And cleared like the flashing
Of a sword from its sheath
٤. وَانْجَلَى مِثْلَ انْجِلاَءِ
الغِمْدِ عِنْ مَتْنِ الحُسَامِ
5. A fine beginning, beautifully
Concluded by a fine end
٥. كَافْتِتَاحِ حَسَنٍ زَيْ
يَنَهُ حُسْنُ خِتَامِ
6. Starting like your deeds
In excellent order
٦. مُسْتَهِلاً مِثْلَ أَفْعَالِكَ
فِي حُسْنِ النِّظَامِ
7. Drink freely of relaxation
With cups and goblets and wine
٧. فَاشْرَبْ الرَّاحَ بِأَرْطَا
لٍ وَطَاسَاتٍ وَجَامِ
8. The world is but illusion
Or dreams of sleep
٨. إِنَّمَا الدُّنْيَا كَوَهْمٍ
أَوْ كَأَحْلاَمِ مَنَامِ
9. Do not seek far
And be content with your state
٩. لاَ تَرُومَنَّ بَعِيْداً
وَارْضَ بِالأَمْرِ المُوَامِ
10. Leave not the middle road
For states of bodies
١٠. لاَ تَدَعْ وُسْطَى مِنَ الْحَا
لِ لِأَحْوَالِ جِسَامِ
11. All things anticipated
Their ruin at perfection
١١. كُلُّ شَيْءٍ يُتَوَقَّى
نَقْضُهُ عِنْدَ التَّمَامِ
