1. O the auspicious gift is more fitting for us
Your generosity from it is the finest wealth

2. It came to one who needed it as
Your beloved came to you on a promise

3. Plated in yellow, you chose it
Deliberately from the path of Sindh

4. Your opinion in it was sincere to me as
My ancestors refined it with utmost sincerity

5. But it became, by He who
Creates it, not what I obtained

6. By my soul, not by the vices of greed
I protect you from the returning calamities of fate

7. It is the Shihāb of storm and Rabīʿ of bloom
And lion of battalion and crescent of gathering

8. And Miymūn of good omen wherever
Its banners alighted and called from the land

9. He prolonged the visitation of charity until
He cast us with the oft-returning thing

10. It has a pen of life when it is content
And if it rages, it is the life of the valley’s midst

11. And ink connects with it so it flows
The blood of enemies in that ink

12. You lifted me, O Ḥusayn, to the heights
A youth, and the masters are in the throng

13. And God willed goodness in the Fusṭāṭ
So it smiled at it with the noble weeping

14. Do you wonder if a land was jealous over you
Dazzled by your approaching from afar?

15. Nor is longing for Damascus odd in someone pierced
Do meadows forget about the deer?

16. It is right that gifts are found
Abundant on the day of the hunt

17. And when poetry’s sweetness is most fulfilling
For what I owed you from past generosity

18. And better than Rum’s gazelles presented
Caparisoned on the steeds’ necks

19. I singled you out for what is gifted to remain
Its beauties until the day of calling
