من عذيري من عذارى رشإ

1. Who can excuse me for my shortcomings
When I have exposed my heart to ruin?

١. مَنْ عَذِيْرِي مِنْ عِذَارَى رَشَإِ
عَرًّضَ القَلْبَ لِأَسْبَابِ التَلَّفْ

2. He increased in beauty and radiance
Until he was like the full moon in its halo.

٢. زَيْدَ حُسْنَاً وَضِيَاءً بِهِمَا
فَهُوَ الآنَ كَبَدْرِ فِي سَدَفْ

3. He inclined his cheek then turned away—
Ah, how graceful was that turning!

٣. جَمَشَا خَدَّيْهِ ثُمَّ انْعَطَفَا
آهِ مَا أَحْسَنَ ذَاكَ المُنْعَطَفْ

4. Poetry, which he reproached,
Knew to stop short of reproaching him.

٤. عَلِمَ الشَّعْرُ الَّذِي عَاجَلَهُ
أَنَّهُ جَارَ عَلَيْهِ فَوَقَفْ

5. In stopping it admits
To excess in transgressing and extravagance.

٥. فَهْوَ فِي وَقْفَتِهِ مُعْتَرِفٌ
بالتَّنَاهِي فِي التَّعَدِّي وَالسَّرَفْ
