١. صرتَ يا عامِلَ البريد مَقِيتاً
وقديماً إليّ كُنْتَ حبيبَا
2. You used to dislike the censor; yet you have become
Our censor in the authority you hold.
٢. كنتَ تستثقِلُ الرقيبَ فقدْ صِرْ
تَ علينا بما وَلِيتَ رَقيبا
3. Souls have come to hate you and hearts
Have turned away from you, you who once captivated hearts.
٣. شَنِئَتْكَ النفوسُ وانحرفَتْ عن
كَ قلوبٌ وكنتَ تَسْبي القُلوبا
4. Shouldn't people be amazed by one
Who was once a young gazelle and is now an ape?
٤. أفلا يعجَبُ الأَنامُ لشَخْصٍ
صار قِرْداً وكان ظِبْياً رَبِيبَا
