1. She rose like the full moon of darkness,
And walked with the gait of one intrepid and bold,
١. طَلَعَتْ كالقَمَرِ التَّمِّ بَدَر
وَمَشَتْ مَشْيَةَ ذي الفَتْكِ خَطَر
2. And swayed like a branch in the day
Of wind and clouds and rain.
٢. وَتَثَنَّتْ كَتَثَنِّي الغُصْنِ فِي
يَوْمه رِيْحٍ وَغَمَامٍ وَمَطَرْ
3. She folded the tent over its ridge
And we saw a halo around the moon.
٣. لاَثَتِ الكَوْرَ عَلَى مَفْرِقِهَا
فَرَأَيْنَا هَالَةً حَوْلَ القَمَرْ
4. She was likened to the gentle breeze,
So she was named for it and called “Sukr.”
٤. شُبِّهَتْ بالرَّاحِ فَاشْتُقَّ لَهَا
اسْمُهَا مِنْهَا فَسَمَّوهَا سُكُرْ
5. A gazelle created in parts
Of cane and dune and moon.
٥. ظَبْيَةٌ مَخْلُوقَةٌ أَقْسَامُهَا
مِنْ قَضِيْبٍ وَكَثِيْبٍ وَقَمَرْ
