1. The pillow lamented his absence,
Sleep was denied.

2. A gazelle he hunted, though uncatchable,
Alas! I'm sick, nothing restores me,

3. My heart weeps, lacking heart,
Though weeping avails nothing here,

4. Absence would make it weep.
I wake to strife, for love is strife.

5. My killer, my undoing,
Your rectitude found no guidance.

6. You've addicted me, I'm sated with habit.
You've burdened me beyond all burdening.

7. Why kill me, without appointment?
My youth was filled with joy

8. Unequalled in its gladness,
And many delights I lived,

9. With leisure and rest.
Coffee from the blackened valley,

10. Made in Noah's day, or by ancient Aad,
I've coloured them, though matchless,

11. My gifts made them excel.
Their words of it are nothing

12. But song and intonation.
Its tools are water pure

13. Its clothes only wool.
Near fire it shudders in fright.

14. Our hearts are swords in sheaths
Our feast has no end.

15. Our cups brim and pour.
With slender necks the gazelles we hunt,

16. Swift steeds we mount and ride.
A girl we own, the stakes adorn themselves for her.

17. A fawn whose glance ensnares.
His palm pours bounty, home to grace,

18. Like a rod planted in the meadows green.
He never stopped sustaining us,

19. Till he lay dead, my hand his pillow.
As if his drinkers in the market trailed ropes.

20. Muhammad son of Mansur, that noble steed,
None after him so generous, sought for generosity.

21. Of ample dew, his wisdom heals all rancor.
His glory the full moons cannot match.

22. He revived a people, though now gone,
Their inheritance Ziyad secured.

23. If he lacked wealth, his hands would give.
Swords praise his palms that forged them.

24. Dispeller of predicaments, burdened yet able.
He spent the surplus bounty judiciously.

25. If but a day he were absent, the lands would wither.
Rain of munificence, the lands thrive through him.

26. He honors each promise and date.
His forebears excellent, his descendants glorious.

27. Many misers by his handshake turned generous.
He's the ever-living, whom seekers don't blame.

28. His giving sets the pattern.
His sea surges, the drawers praise.

29. His goal fulfillment, his means conviction.
Lavish his bounty, fiscal his deed.

30. He spread the bounty, even foes love him.
The people at his door like troops arrayed.

31. By him Mansur gained victory, when the steeds raced.
He came when absent, led or almost led.

32. My praise of him and Muhammad the guided.
In brotherhood with him, my belief holds.

33. When fortune frowns or fate conspires,
Or treacherous skies or luck runs out.

34. Rule of Quraysh confined to Hashim.
Our pillar, you are the pegs.
