يا من ينادي الدار هل تنطق

1. O you who call out to an empty house, can it speak?
It has become mute to you, so it cannot speak.

١. يا مَن ينادي الدارَ هل تنطقُ
قد خرست عنكَ فما تنطقُ

2. As if, when it fell mute, a passionate lover
Among those who reproach him, bows his head.

٢. كأنّها إذ خرست جاذمٌ
بين ذوي تفنيدِه مُطرِقُ

3. He persisted bowing his head until
He seems blind while he is clear-sighted.

٣. قد داومَ الإطراقَ حتى لهُ
يحسب عيّاً وهو المفلقُ

٤. إنّي عنيتُ نحو ذا واحداً
من قولهِ في أذني أعلقُ

5. With his guidance he complains of sleeplessness from
My arrowheads that pierced his chest.

٥. بهديهِ يشكو التباريحَ مِن
رمّانَتي صدرتِها القُرطَقُ

6. What preoccupies them most is a prostration
To the cheek of the sun when it rises.

٦. أكثرُ ما يشغلُها سجدةٌ
لغُرّةِ الشمسِ إذا تشرقُ

7. He marries wine to water in
Cups of pure wine whose foam seethes.

٧. يزوّجُ الخمرَ من الماءِ في
جاماتِ تبرٍ خمرُها يفهقُ

8. Statues that do not
Hear the supplicant nor speak.

٨. منطّقاتٍ بتصاويرَ لا
تسمع للدّاعي ولا تنطقُ

9. Engraved on the statues of the Banu Babak
Is a trench between them.

٩. على تماثيلِ بني بابكٍ
محتفرٌ ما بينهم خندق

10. As if they and the wine above them
Are regiments drowned in a marsh.

١٠. كأنهم والخمر من فوقهم
كتائبٌ في لجّةٍ تغرقُ

11. So this description is no description of an empty house
In whose ruins a fool wanders.

١١. فالنعتُ ذا لا نعتُ دار خلَت
يهيمُ في أطلالِها أحمقُ
