How many a night with towers and galleries

1. How many a night with towers and galleries
Like a turbulent sea casting wave upon wave

2. I whiled it away with a branch, like a bough attracting
The fawns amidst the bright flashes of lightning

3. With teeth in his mouth like icicles of delicious coolness
And apple-red cheeks

4. As though his face and the hair clothing him
Were a full moon breathing in intense darkness

5. I took away his sobriety, and drunkenness deceived him
That he had escaped, while he had not escaped from me

6. So he remained watering a rose with drops of sorrow
And rending brocade with brocade

7. And I remained a while, of the beautiful ones of time
Until the eyes of dawn disturbed me
