1. You were satisfied with its shortcomings
And did not make any effort to please it

2. And you made the ugliest of its deeds look good
And made light of its biggest mistakes

3. And how many ways there are for the youth
You took the path of its temptations

4. So which calls of passion did you resist
And not walk the path of its pleasures

5. And which of the forbidden acts did you not violate
And which disgraces did you not commit

6. And this is the Day of Judgment approaching
Showing you the fears of its horrors

7. It has come with its threats
And its terrors, so intense are its afflictions

8. And I am in the midst of its signs
And its evidence and symbols

9. Blessed is the Lord who spread His earth
And perfectly designed its sustenance

10. And made it a trial for people
Tempting the misguided with its raids

11. So we do not care for its wonders
Nor the changes of its states

12. We compete in it while its days
Come back to us with its afflictions

13. Do not its living beings contemplate
And take admonition from its dead?
