1. Do not turn away from the daughter of generosity
For through her is the cohesion of bodily strength

2. And know that if you mutter about another
The clouds of sorrow will pour down on you

3. And if you witness her enemy in a gathering
Aim at him with the ugliest reproach

4. And if you drink, then be eloquent about her
Until the goodness of the taste is evident

5. And give pleasure through her goodness to your amusement
And to the nostrils through much smelling

6. And look when she meets you getting prepared
The look of the orphan towards a mother's hand

7. Or have you not seen the cup when you mixed it
How it turns just like turning pale

8. If there were no comfort in its drinking
Except relief from the hand of worry
