1. O companion of my soul with wisdom
I could not sleep though the night was long

2. So serve me the wine that was fermented
With the yeast of old age in the womb

3. Then the youth would listen to it
After it crossed the expanse of time

4. It is for the day when it was poured
And it is the soil of time from early days

5. It was preserved as if it was endowed
With a tongue and an eloquent mouth

6. It would not be concealed amongst the people
Then it narrated the story of civilizations

7. A hand well-made for the goblet and the pen
Tempered it with perfect blend

8. In the drinking parties of eminent nobles
Who took pleasures from civilizations

9. It crept in their joints
As creeps the innocence in the sick

10. It acted in the house when it was blended
Like the dawn acts in the darkness

11. So the wanderer in darkness was guided by it
As is the journey guided by the flag
