1. I died from love-longing, though life still remained,
For a gazelle-eyed beloved with a slender waist.
١. قَد مِتُّ غَيرَ حُشاشَةِ الرَمَقِ
مِن حُبِّ أَحوَرَ شادِنٍ خَرِقِ
2. She reduced my appetite for food and drink;
Never has any waist that I embraced diminished.
٢. مَنقوصِ تَهضيمِ الحَشا وَرَبا
ما اِنحَطَّ مِن خَصرٍ وَمُنتَطِقِ
3. In her is a grace diffused
Through her continuous and interrupted aspects.
٣. مَعشوقَةٌ فيهِ مَلاحَتُهُ
ما بَينَ مُتَّصِلٍ وَمُفتَرِقِ
4. No region of her stature is particularized
By any horizon above her ankles being preferred.
٤. ما خُصَّ مِن آفاقِ قامَتِهِ
أُفُقٌ بِتَفضيلٍ عَلى رُفُقِ
5. So when she shows her beauties to me
She forcibly draws the eyes' attention to herself.
٥. فَإِذا بَدا اِقتادَت مَحاسِنُهُ
قَسراً إِلَيهِ أَعِنَّةَ الحَدَقِ
