And spreading the edict and the fluttering banner,

15. And what Isaiah prayed and fasted
At the hermitage of the Siddiq,

16. With Mar Daghdih reciting in a voice
Like the humming of a lute's strings,

17. With the Roman and Syrian churches
And the sublime monastery,

18. With Constantinople, the redeemed city
And the pledge of Ash'ari at dawn,

19. With Caesar and the kings, come, dragging
To Samma's lofty companion,

20. And with the wandering gaze when it looks
And the belt around the slim waist,

21. With the sanctity of your cheeks and a beautiful face
That makes me lose my way, and the slender stature,

22. With the perfume compounded in you, have mercy,
Don't burn my feelings and parch my saliva,

23. Yet closeness after estrangement
Is the right of a lover addressed by his beloved,

24. You have become the adornment of every feast
And faith, despite your aloofness and disdain.
