1. If the wolf trod upon
A trace from the pebbles of the mosque,

2. Then a knot from the cattle
Is made lawful for us, and we are blessed.

3. If he is demanding poetry,
Say the hoopoe prostrated.

4. And if he seeks asylum,
Then he is most generous.

5. And if he leans towards opinion,
Then for the opinion he corrupts.

6. And if he speaks poetry,
Then he has pulled for us the plow.

7. So O you who entered the mosque
With most blossoming joy,

8. You judge me by yourselves
And in this matter, I do not deny.
