1. O you who reciprocates love with tranquility
Or makes a human my sole preoccupation

2. So I may be his slave, lending and borrowing
Affection for affection, estrangement for estrangement

3. If we are reconciled after discord
We will not part again after promising reunion

4. I say while al-ʿAys wanders the wilderness with us
The hardy pair terrified by the crisis

5. For an unkempt, dusty, filthy creature
As if her saddle pads are the bricks of a building

6. O she-camel, do not tire or reach a king
Kissing his palm is equal to the corner [of the Kaaba]

7. When will you arrive there in peace
And gather all people into the image of a human

8. A counterpart among dominions he prefers
Two births from al-Manṣūr are two

9. God spread over him the shade of a kingdom
The distant and the near bask in it

10. If the rain stops, his gifts do not stop
The heir apparent, his hands giving generously

11. He whom God decreed supremacy
None can match his superiority

12. He whom God tested the hearts with
Of what they secretly harbor of faith or disbelief

13. Though some hope to nullify your rights
They earned God's wrath and defiance

14. They will not repel your rights unless they repel
What God revealed of signs and proofs

15. So grant it, O Abbasids, they are
The Prophet's clan, while you are not

16. God has a sword over their necks
In the grip of a fierce, unrelenting hand

17. Death awakens startled by its brandishing
Death sleeps within it, and wakefulness

18. Muḥammad is the best of those who walk
Of humans or jinn God created
