1. The verdant one has donned youth after its old age
And it did so through you, O trusted one
١. تَشَبَّبَتِ الخَضراءُ بَعدَ مَشيبِها
وَلَم تَكُ إِلّا بِالأَمينِ تَشَبَّبُ
2. You have restored its bygone youth
And renewed a sight of it that was about to perish
٢. رَدَدتَ عَلَيها ما مَضى مِن شَبابِها
وَجَدَّدتَ مِنها مَنظَراً كادَ يَخرَبُ
3. If you resemble Harun in some ways
You are closer in resemblance to al-Mansur
٣. لَئِن كانَ مِن هارونَ فيكَ مَشابَهٌ
لَأَنتَ إِلى المَنصورِ بِالشَبهِ أَقرَبُ
4. For if your ancestors are counted
You become a kinsman of al-Mansur from that lineage
٤. لِأَنَّكَ إِن جَدّاكَ عُدّا فَإِنَّما
تَصيرُ رِلى المَنصورِ مِن حَيثُ تُنسَبُ
5. We see you as his son, from both his sides
So from one side, a grandfather, and from the other, a father
٥. نَراكَ ابنَهُ مِن جانِبَيهِ كِلَيهِما
فَمِن جانِبٍ جَدٌّ وَمِن جانِبٍ أَبُ
6. A leader who commands awe and love
How excellent is that imposing, beloved one
٦. إِمامٌ عَلَيهِ هَيبَةٌ وَمَحَبَّةٌ
أَلا حَبَّذا ذاكَ المُهيبُ المُحَبَّبُ
