نضت عنها القميص لصب ماء

1. She drew off her dress to pour water
And her face blushed with sudden modesty

١. نَضَت عَنها القَميصَ لِصَبِّ ماءِ
فَوَرَّدَ وَجهَها فُرطُ الحَياءِ

2. She met the breeze having bared herself
With a grace more delicate than the air

٢. وَقابَلَتِ النَسيمَ وَقَد تَعَرَّت
بِمُعتَدِلٍ أَرَقَّ مِنَ الهَواءِ

3. And stretched out a hand like water from her
To water prepared in a vessel

٣. وَمَدَّت راحَةً كَالماءِ مِنها
إِلى ماءٍ مُعَدٍّ في إِناءِ

4. But when she had sated her thirst and meant
Hastily to take up her gown

٤. فَلَمّا أَن قَضَت وَطَراً وَهَمَّت
عَلى عَجَلٍ إِلى أَخذِ الرِداءِ

5. She saw the watcher's figure draw near
And cast darkness over the light

٥. رَأَت شَخصَ الرَقيبِ عَلى التَداني
فَأَسبَلَتِ الظَلامَ عَلى الضِياءِ

6. So dawn vanished from her beneath night
And the water kept dripping over water

٦. فَغابَ الصُبحُ مِنها تَحتَ لَيلٍ
وَظَلَّ الماءُ يَقطِرُ فَوقَ ماءِ

7. Glory to God who created her
As the most beautiful of women

٧. فَسُبحانَ الإِلَهِ وَقَد بَراها
كَأَحسَنِ ما يَكونَ مِنَ النِساءِ
