1. Wandering in his beauty, proud and aloof,
His words cannot be savored in confusion.
١. مُتَتايِهٍ بِجَمالِهِ صَلِفٌ
لا يُستَتاعُ كَلامُهُ تيها
2. For the beauty in his cheeks there is wonder -
No sooner does the lesson bore him than he flees.
٢. لِلحُسنِ في وَجَناتِهِ بِدَعٌ
ما إِن يَمَلُّ الدَرسَ فاريها
3. If things could understand him,
They would revere him with the reverence of the Creator.
٣. لَو كانَتِ الأَشياءُ تَعقِلُهُ
أَجلَلنَهُ إِجلالَ باريها
4. If the earth could gather itself up
It would all withdraw into itself for him.
٤. لَو تَستَطيعُ الأَرضُ لَاِنقَبَضَت
حَتّى يَصيرَ جَميعُهُ فيها
