مضى ليل وأخلفت النجوم

1. The night has passed, and the stars have faded
Yet we remain by our dwellings, seated

١. مَضى لَيلٌ وَأَخلَفَتِ النُجومُ
وَنَحنُ لَدى مَصارِعِنا جُثومُ

2. So heal, my friend, the heart of your brother at night
For his heart is forever wounded

٢. فَداوِ كُلومَ قَلبِ أَخيكَ لَيلاً
فَإِنَّ فُؤادَهُ أَبَداً كَليمُ

3. With a chalice, if filled with pure water
Pearls will flow from its brim, swarming

٣. بِصافِيَةٍ إِذا قُرِعَت بِماءٍ
جَرى عَن مَتنِها دُرٌّ يَحومُ

4. It makes us laugh, like the rooster's eye at dawn
But if clouds seep into it, it is glooming

٤. تُضاحِكُنا كَعَينِ الديكِ صِرفاً
فَإِن مُزِجَت تَخَلَّلَها غُيومُ

5. In the goblet is the softness of a languid bride
And in it is an everlasting joy blooming

٥. لَها في الكَأسِ لينُ عَروسِ خِدرٍ
وَفيها لِلسُرورِ رَحىً تَدومُ

6. And when the light of dawn shone upon us
And a radiant full moon stirred its lute

٦. وَلَمّا لاحَ ضَوءُ الصُبحِ عَنّا
وَحَرَّكَ عودَهُ بَدرٌ وَسيمُ

7. Hearing my brother's voice from Hejaz, my longing stirred
For one whose ruins at Ramah will never be consumed

٧. بِصَوتِ أَخي الحِجازِ فَهاجَ شَوقي
لِمَن طَلَلٌ بِرامَةَ لا يَريمُ
