A maiden like the brightest moon

2. She clung to me and I clung to her
Two infants in the cradle until the Day of Resurrection

3. I was, and she was, exchanging love
With our two rings, without shame

4. You withheld from me my ring, and
You took it from me months ago

5. So she sent her ring, and I deceived her
With a ring of green silver

6. She said we had a red ring
That would bring us together in secret

7. But he has given it to someone else
So he gave her the ring, I have no doubt

8. I disbelieve in God and His signs
If I do not leave him, let him see

9. Or spend the night finding a way out
Of my accusation, with his red ring

10. Return it, return her affection, she is
The delight of my eye, O Abu Ja'far

11. For I am accused by her
And you know I am innocent
