1. A friend who betrayed my trust in him
While goodness is expected of a friend

2. He flattered me with words until
He became wealthy and powerful

3. Then he turned away from me, aloof
As if in his riches he was Qarun

4. I was shocked by this from him so I reproached him
For advice amongst brothers is a duty

5. But he scorned me when I reproached him
Though his origin is lowly amongst his people
