1. In the deep valley at dawn's first light
Two coats of resin and clay she wears
2. I tended to her wound when asked to treat
Neither miserly nor begrudging my cares
3. I doubted her recovery in the dark night
She shed a tear in the gloom so bright
4. With a wave of his perfumed hand so slight
The young man with the soft cheeks did alight
5. His eyes afford us untold pleasures
Though languid and demure are their measures
6. As though the sun walked amidst garlands of jasmine
Approaching us with a gait so feminine
7. To my she-camel I then whispered at dawn
You have gained standing highly favored this morn
8. Not for ritual sacrifice made I you bleed
Nor bid you shine with blood of the vain steed
9. I spared you the burden of far desert sands
And waterless wastes of the wandering bands
