1. I yearned for Qutrubbul, so I came to her
With eighty flawless white coins as capital

2. I spent them until I was in debt
And I sold a striped shirt and robe

3. And I sold a gown with embroidered hems
To a wine-seller whose debt was the debt of Ibn Imran's son

4. A refined one nicknamed Umm Husain
And I said to her, “If you do not give generously

5. I must kiss your lips”
She said, “Are you content with less than them, passion

6. For a tender cheek like a slack-eyed coin?”
So she came with a face shining like the full moon

7. A most melodious voice, pendulous cheeks
But I turned away from her, destitute, not wealthy

8. Broke by two hundred coins
And the wine-seller said to me at his farewell

9. As wine had shod me in the slippers of yearning:
“Live decently wherever you go openly

10. Since I left you in disgrace when I left in debt”
