1. Tell the bare-armed, whose cheek sports a beauty-mark,
And tell the turbaned man who wears a cloak like a Kurd's,
١. قُل لِاِسماعيلَ ذي الخا
لِ عَلى الخَدِّ السِباعي
2. And tell the full-lipped one, whose mouth is ever laughing,
And tell the slender-armed, embraced in an embrace -
٢. وَلِذي الهامَةِ قَد نُص
صَت عَلى مِثلِ الكُراعِ
3. Your chants were a feast for the voracious hyenas.
The cup was passed amongst you, with songs and music,
٣. وَلِذي الثَغرِ الَّذي يُط
بِقُ بِالشَدقِ التَساعي
4. And you shared the darkness when you were prey for the beasts.
A night when good old Abel was absent from your gathering,
٤. وَلِذي الوَجعاءِ مُفضا
ها ذِراعٌ في ذِراعِ
5. Riding his camel till dawn's caller called.
٥. كانَ إِعراسُكَ طُعماً
لِشَواهينِ الجِياعِ
٦. دارَتِ الكَأسُ عَلَيكُم
في غِناءٍ وَسَماعِ
٧. فَاِقتَسَمتُم في الدُجى إِذ
كُنتُمُ شاءَ السِباعِ
٨. لَيلَةً سُرَّ بِها إِب
ليسُ مِنكُم بِاِجتِماعِ
٩. إِبِلٌ تُركَبُ حَتّى
قامَ لِلإِصباحِ داعِ
