1. A rider sways atop a she-camel, yearning
His eyes shaded by the shade of his eyelids

2. If she crossed a wadi, no wadi appeared to his eyes
The she-camel driver, when downpours assaulted her

3. Seeks refuge in a white desert, bearing a child inside her
And the sacredness of a mingler’s grasping hand

4. Its light encompassing, leading
So when she was juxtaposed with it, above her

5. Like pearls piled up as foam
He gave her to drink, pure, unmixed

6. Whose abundance green plants flourished
The courtyard of the frequented mosque, then the sand, then the pillar bases

7. Its ceilings never gathered
So the abodes of Banu Abi Sufyan, where the throngs gathered

8. And where the virgins settled, the abodes they spread out
And the abodes of a warrior, where the torrents steadily flowed

9. To abodes, the dearest to my heart dwelt in them
To a bleary eye, the best thing is

10. When rheum flowed around his eye
From Mahmah, he came to her

11. And greeted her people, the speech impaired
And every undertaker folding the cheek of the deceased

12. When a composer smiles, his coldness shows
When we stood to pray, no one separated us

13. I nudged him when they stood
And touched him when they sat

14. No successor of the Merciful equals me when they prostrated
Where is the coarse cloak

15. Of this quality and skin?
Its niche dug up,

16. And the solitary prayer area and prayer mat
The camel market where horses are led continuously

17. A place I do not lack, inhabited by one of ill nature
Bedouins' dwellings surrounded its tanned skin

18. When I said “How is life?” he said “Blistered and chronic woe”
God forbid they are equal

19. Though they shared a homeland
