1. Reveal yourself and rend the veil asunder,
And openly profess your love affair.

2. Let no bashfulness deter you from your love,
For bashfulness leads only to destitution.

3. Drink with whomsoever you meet, for I counsel you sincerely,
And drink though unlawful to my brother wine may be.

4. Appoint for yourself each day one prayer alone,
Pray not overly much, lest recompense you earn.

5. And when the pilgrims go on pilgrimage, set out before them quickly,
To a wine-seller's booth, and pass the night in wakefulness.

6. And when the pilgrims end prohibitions, let songs delight me!
O you who scans the horizon for a glimpse of lightening!

7. Obey Iblis your uncle completely,
For obedience to him is an obligation you must not shirk.

8. Do not commit venial sins,
And if you commit them, exceed the limit.
