1. I see that wine nurtures mischief in minds
Like hidden morals that stir up ruin
١. أَرى الخَمرَ تُربي في العُقولِ فَتَنتَضي
كَوامِنَ أَخلاقٍ تُثيرُ الدَواهِيا
2. It increases the foolishness of fools
And leaves the character of the noble as it was
٢. تَزيدُ سَفيهَ القَومِ فَضلَ سَفاهَةٍ
وَتَترُكُ أَخلاقَ الكَريمِ كَما هِيا
3. I found that the least reasonable of people, when drunk
Is the least reasonable when sober
٣. وَجَدتُ أَقَلَّ الناسِ عَقلاً إِذا انتَشى
أَقَلَّهُمُ عَقلاً إِذا كانَ صاحِيا
