1. You gave your sad one to his sorrows,
To his misfortunes and his estrangement,
١. بذلتَ الكئيبَ لأحزانهِ
لأوصابهِ وبهجرانهِ
2. And you let flow down the cheek of the weeping willow
The cascade of his falling tears.
٢. وجُرتَ على طرفِ باكي الجفو
نِ مُنحدرِ الدمعِ هَتَّانهِ
3. You left him to the One who, if He wills,
Will destroy the very soul of man.
٣. فوكلتَهُ بالذي إن يَدُم
سيأتي على نفسِ إنسانهِ
4. So sleep! Do not delight, and if you cannot sleep,
It is no fault of His.
٤. فنم لا سرُرتَ وإن لم تَنَم
فليسَ سُهادُكَ من شأنهِ
