1. The heart envies my eyes the pleasure of sight
And the eye envies my heart the pleasure of thought

2. My heart says to my eye whenever it looks
How much you look, may God afflict you with wakefulness

3. The eye bequeaths anxiety to it, distracting it
And the heart with tears deters it from looking

4. These two are adversaries, I am not pleased with their judgment
So judge, my soul, between the heart and sight
