1. You have returned after leaving, O Eid
As if everything that delights the soul is lost

2. Are you an Eid filled with joys
Or a mourning in which sorrows are renewed

3. You are the Eid of Islam in which
Woe to him whose heart is locked with deceit

4. An Eid in which people are busy
With their worries that have no thousands of bliss

5. An Eid of despair in a kingdom
In which there is no dressing of an oozing wound

6. Where the foreigner is happy with his flattery
And the citizen is expelled and dispersed

7. An Eid in which the wounds of truth bleed
And the dagger of injustice is buried in the entrails

8. An Eid in which Muslims suffer misery
While patience over it is not praised

9. They want a pillar to take refuge in
While the pillar is destroyed by the blows of fate

10. They hope for a leader in whom there is solace
Can one bound bring comfort to another bound?

11. Islam complains, persecuted
Where is the determination and where is the firm shield?

12. Truth is trampled underfoot, crushed
And there is no strong defender of truth there

13. The door of death is open to the persecuted
While every other door is locked

14. Palm trees cry over their wounds after affliction but
No tears can cry over palm trees' wounds

15. They have no jewelry but their tears
With which foreheads and cheeks are adorned

16. The nations obtained all their demands
While the neglected demand of the Arabs is rejected

17. Every day a terrible calamity befalls the people
Frightening and threatening the people

18. There is no heart but in it sorrow lies heavily
With no limit to the extent of this sorrow

19. The garden is no longer vibrant as you used to tend it
Nor does the nightingale trill in it

20. Affliction came to the garden until it withered of thirst
On a day that scorched and dried out vegetation

21. Some people rejoice in the Eid
Not in their white days but in their black days

22. Go away, for the people’s hearts are bleeding
They can find no solace in you, O Eid

23. How can you open the doors of joy for them
While the keys are in the hands of others

24. We used to welcome the returning Eids
If the Eid could dispel sorrows

25. There is no unity in the system today to unite them
For my people are all disunited

26. In all Arab countries there is no peace
In all Arab countries there is no bliss

27. Your face used to smile at the beholder
But today wrinkles fill the face

28. The nails of fate are embedded in it, tampering
In it are hollows made by every one of its nails

29. Fate gives joy that it withholds
Such is its lack of stinginess or generosity

30. My people had no deficiency before
So that promises reassured them

31. Arrows, even if well-aimed
Lack precision upon release

32. Cannons boom deafeningly
As solid objects collide with each other

33. We want a shade to shelter us from heat
Of a tree no longer green, now withered

34. I have no passion left but for poetry
For poetry is my pride and glory

35. Life is but a raging fire
Ignited in the youth’s blood by gunpowder

36. It is like collisions on a slope
As boulders collide with floods

37. My past experiences have taught me
That the thunderbolt achieves no needs

38. Days of power, all Eids together
But for the disgraced there is no Eid

39. The lute was stripped when its leaves withered
Can it now wait until the wood grows leaves?

40. I have not heard justice proclaimed in news for long
I almost believed justice to be extinct

41. O justice, those who wronged
Have stretched their hands of injustice in all lands

42. Truth has a protector in time
Do you not believe that God exists?
