3. None makes light of what he suffers from anguish
Except he whose conscience died in him

4. O Egypt, your sorrow will remain stinging
Until the like of him comes to you from you

5. O Shouqi, you were to Egypt a planet
That gives its sons light to safety

6. And if the seekers of their rights were slow
You would provoke them

7. And if one was shackled you would not care in
A time what you possess to free him

8. Why do I see you put out not because of
A reason in a very dark night

9. If God wanted something a helpless slave cannot
Delay it

10. And when a person wants to undo His decree
His mind is not enough nor his plotting

11. Of poetry you left for people beauty
That generations after you sing

12. A magnificent statue of you will be erected
So that statue will be poetry

13. Yesterday for those who knew you, you were
Tangible, and today you are a mirage

14. You did not remain in your death to them
You have memories that do not dissipate

15. If time had a conscience
It would cry over you at dawn and night

16. You stayed of literature the best crown
I wished the turbans do not go

17. Life is full of problems
While death alone is the solution

37. They placed the prince of poetry in his narrow abode
We sighed over him as the box embraces him

38. I craved over him pillowing him in a
Secluded hole that has no guards

39. The fires of brilliance faded
As for the ashes they are piles

40. The great demise of the chanter
Made anemones and buds weep

41. In the garden of sorrows he became a scene
That was not there before for joys

42. How the flowers listened to his melody
In a white night with bands

43. The nightingales of poetry circled his generous palm tree a while
With fervor not found with others

44. Their relationship with him in its shade
Was like bodies with spirits

45. Dawn emerged from your ode masked
And dawn I recognize from glimpses

46. You were the first poet who gave people guidance

67. Ask them: Are they comfortable in their life
Or are they bored and frustrated

68. Happier are the elegant souls saved from evil
They ascended in the sky’s breadth like stars

69. I learned all the laws of life
As for life itself it did not learn

70. I walked between sights and tears
Crossing from a spring to a spring

71. The farewells were very painful
And the hardest was the moment of bidding adieu

72. And the people behind the coffin walking silently
In shiver and humility

73. A hand on an eye of those with vision
And a hand on a heart of those with agony

74. As for talking it was all whispers
Nothing of it was heard

His tears reached bidding him farewell before him

76. My heart will keep disturbing in the chests
Until my tears flow with the procession

77. The multitudes who bid him farewell all returned
Except the bereaved’s pouring tears

What afflicted the heart beneath my ribs

After every evening so obey me

80. Cry at night wrapped in darkness

After tranquility and stillness of moves

Before me, and cry over survival of my life

83. My friend Hafez walked before you so you followed him
And I remained alone today for calamities

84. My companions stop for a while, I

85. If I die my loved ones will grieve in Iraq
Sometimes and my enemies will rejoice in Iraq others

86. I wish if they wanted to criticize me dead
That none of the enemies be my judges

87. None remains of the generation whose time has passed
Except the greatest ruined parts

88. Oh Shouqi’s grave I poured with my tears

89. Who would close on elegant meadows
When morning, outlets of breeze?

90. You disappeared on your poetry’s glory sometime
Away from my eyes and from appearances is disappearance

91. Glorify your adversity, with it pillars
Of Egypt’s flags shook and blood crept

92. You hurried in travel, Shouqi, and you
Stayed there, you did not say anything
