1. Enjoy hearing and sight
Before you reach old age

2. For when old age comes
Hearing and sight are gone

3. And when both are gone
Tedium and boredom come

4. Then nothing of life itself
Remains anymore

5. And rebellion against traditions
Leads only to harm

6. Only the free rebel
Even against fate

7. Be bold when you seek
For winners dared

8. And wake when you intend
And proceed cautiously

9. Do not blame me for an
Error when it appears

10. What great one walked
On rugged ground and didn’t stumble

11. Best are the manners of youth
Not those of old age

12. A garden is beautiful in spring
When showered with rain

13. And a moth circling beautifully
Over flowers

14. Peace be upon intelligence
And a face that captivates

15. Best are blossoms smiling
At dawn that uncovered

16. The jest wished to breathe
Magic and succeeded

17. You enchanted me, nighthawks
Perching in trees

18. With their playful tunes beyond
What strings can express

19. Yes, the nighthawks left in the soul
No trace

20. Only a rock feels from them
Nothing but that

21. Send your gaze to the sky and enjoy
Looking at it

22. You see a star like a pearl
Scattered between its horizons

23. It is for onlookers a collection
Of splendid poetry

24. With so many verses
All precious pearls

25. It resembles a garden in it
Every flower variety

26. It is the exhibit of planets
And sun and moon

27. And when the sun rises
Revealing its bright face

28. The light bursts forth pouring
Like a torrent rushing down

29. Creating images that expand
Souls, how beautiful the images!

30. And there is the galaxy, so look
At the galaxy attentively

31. It resembles an overflowing river
With waves overlapping

32. Or a path to Heaven
Stretching endlessly

33. Its pavement made by angels
With aquamarines and pearls

34. How much vastness is in this space
That amazes thought!

35. And orbiting suns
Shooting out sparks

36. What sorcery contains a wand
That stirred these spheres?

37. What worlds without
Any stable abode in them!

38. Like a vessel borne by
Stormy winds ongoing

39. That which remains hidden
Is multiples of what appears

40. Nature is but a turbulent sea
With foaming waves

41. In it were only islands
Not anything else

42. What is life unless
Followed by death?

43. Death is but a plague
That does not remain or spare

44. When the wealthy die
Their burial is a pit

45. The departed did not
Bring us any news

46. They left as they came
Groups after groups

47. When I die, take me
To my grave

48. For you in death, when you perish
A farewell without any farewell

49. Do not hope for the mending
Of shattered glass

50. Do you see the soul remaining
After a body it shrouded?

51. A beautiful woman like a bride
With lovely eyes

52. They coerced her to marry
An old man with villainy

53. Her days with him after
The old man took her virginity

54. He oppressed her with cruelty
And humiliation and contempt

55. It broke the heart of her lover
Yet it was not mended

56. That is an unforgivable sin
However she tried to repent

57. O Sheikh, your heart
Is harder than stone

58. Go away, you fiend, death
Does not bring wretchedness

59. Sleep with the snakes underground
For they are better than humans

60. And the Sheikh wept in sorrow
Regretfully shedding tears

61. And threw himself at night
From the roof and killed himself

62. The witness of matters is needless
Of any news or reports

63. Help a people without burden,
O Lord, the Ever-Watchful!

64. A snake bit his leg
By surprise, a male

65. Now he cannot walk
Or he walks stumbling

66. He wept for his lost glory
After having flourished

67. They usurped the orchards his hands planted
When the fruits came to term

68. The beasts preyed on his cattle
Sheep and cows

69. And he tried to break free
At times but in vain

70. Say to one who cried your crying
Does not relieve harm

71. Nor restore usurped rights
However plentiful the tears

72. Repel evil if you can
With good, or weaponry and fire

73. The Sheikh asks drowned
In worries, what is happening?

74. O Sheikh, you float
In endless sea swell

75. After two hours, Sheikh
You will drown in the creek

76. O Sheikh, no peace to one
Whose boat is wrecked

77. O Sheikh, protect what
You feared, for there is no escape

78. Like an enormous foaming camel
And when death draws near

79. Caution does not help
Fortune only smiled at you

80. To mock and ridicule you
It deceived you, Sheikh

81. Again and again it deceived you
O people, I have no

82. Cloak or turban of lies
Only avoiding those who

83. Dishonored women and drank wine
My paradise, if entered

84. With you would be hellfire to me
It will restore freedom to wander

85. When I travel again
I do not stay in a country

86. Where I am despised
Where life seems like

87. Torment for those aware
Where sky is a tumultuous sea

88. With showers of sparks
Where sunlight has for my eyes

89. Only piercing sharp thorns
Where I am like a broken

90. And hollow trunk
Where I am a stranger

91. To home and family
And the nomads will welcome me

92. In Mudar and Bakr lands
If death comes to me

93. Then death is expected
Whenever I bring you

94. Guidance, you say blasphemy!
O palm tree, you shaded me

95. But your shade diminished
Where are your equal branches

96. And shade and blossoms?
Maybe peace with the foe

97. But no peace with fate
The illness overwhelmed me, no

98. Escape from its havoc
O night, if your dawn

99. Bursts forth blazing
O dawn, you are poetry

100. With innovative meaning
O poetry, you are solace

101. For my remaining days
Best is poetry, it retains

102. From the soul traces of its sayer
You suffice, O poet who

103. Says with true feelings!
For the creative poet is nobler
