1. Seize every opportunity in life
To capture joy before it's gone

2. Prefer the present over the future
If you are sorrowful and downcast

3. An hour of joy from your present time
Is better than a thousand past and coming

4. Death lies only in endless stillness
While life is in motion

5. Each day pushes a corpse into the grave
While the youth holds nothing but remnants

6. Seize it, for soon you will be
One of those lifeless bodies

7. You who came from light, which is beautiful
Will travel one day into darkness

8. Spend your few days laughing
And do not hurt the eyes with tears

9. Hold onto life, for by my life
It is for you, for as long as you live, a gift

10. You are but parts of diverse elements
That will not unite after dispersal

11. And when demise comes after you attain
The purpose of your life, let it come

12. If you wish to be remembered, it is enough
That there are graves of fathers and mothers in the earth

13. I guarantee that you will live free on earth
From all the devil’s whims

14. You are who you are, a speck upon the earth
Which amidst the suns is like a pebble

15. What science has managed to uncover
Until today is but glimpses

16. You and earth are two birds with the sun
In this space full of voids

17. What you see white in its depths
Have gone, distancing

18. I see in the stars of each nebula
Nothing but clear signs of its Lord

19. They are universes spinning upon themselves
Spinning fast like millstones

20. Neither I nor the astronomer knows
What creatures are in those lanterns

21. We are among the last of nations, so we cannot catch up
Unless we quicken our pace

22. Most people are inclined to evil, and evil
Can appear in words

23. And perhaps there will come upon the evil in them
What conscience feels of stings

24. Evil shows in observing children
Before the deeds in inclinations

25. And if one acts under compulsion
Then the sinner is not a sinner

26. Most worshippers among us seek
To attain Heaven through prayers

27. Only abundant lust makes man covet
The houris and young men of Paradise

28. Best are cups borne around by houris
To believers in Paradise

29. What my inspiration dictates to me
Observes some of the dangers in my soul

30. And if you are fond of myths
You will gain nothing from my views

31. I am a poet though my path
Is full of obstacles

32. Laughing is good when people cry
And I'm skilled in crying at jokes

33. I have no children to console me
Other than my verses, they are my daughters

34. Tell those who come citing my faults
And forget my merits

35. Criticize what appears an instance of stumbling
Then criticize my stumbling
