1. Mercury rose from the new horizon
Chasing those clinging to the old

2. It rose in the dark night and shone
While people were either believers or deniers

3. Look at it, it resembles a diamond
With a witness testifying to its brilliance

4. As if the calculations of its orbits
Were necklaces in the Tigris and Euphrates

5. In them is the throne of literature established
Raised by the determination of youth's arms

6. Victory is written on the banner's page
Under it the army of youth wages jihad

7. Seeking life for itself, while that is stagnant
They equated the new literature with heresy

8. Yet all heresies are praiseworthy
The people are prisoners who haven't

9. Freed themselves from their chains in a millennium
Poetry bound by tradition is doomed

10. While poetry renewed is immortal
Without criticism, poetry would stay dead

11. Only the critic can revive it
Poetry is like stars rising as flowers

12. Informing you of their unknown mysteries
O God, what can the fanatics cause

13. To the free in their literature?
Poetry is but a rebellious feeling

14. As for feelings, they have no rules
The meaning makes poetry, not its diction

15. Its rhymes are but embellishments
A youth may be an opponent

16. Or an old man may be a supporter
Analyze it, and you see a soul examining it

17. Through images that sometimes converge, sometimes diverge
I congratulate from my heart the cohort

18. That found doctrines after rising
Poetry has a revolution in the dawn of renewal

19. As if the devil of renewal is a jinn
New stars shone in the galaxy

20. As if those stars were poems
As if in every house there is a Ghadah

21. Flirting, pulling closer at times, evading at others

22. It descended to the valley of renewal blossoming
Where floods have greeted glaciers

23. If old-timers want rest
They have tombs of stagnation

24. As for the new, its people roam it
To plow in earth seas turbulent and calm

25. Time cannot impede its flow
Affliction upon it is one

26. I had poetry and loved it
Defending it, for lovers are devoted

27. I was gentle with it, a child
Like a father to his only son

28. When it hummed, smiled or loved
It would look to me, and I'd know its intent

29. I would tell it in my arrogance, not knowing
Whether I was rising or falling

30. And today, with youth gone, my need
Is to be buried in an unmarked grave

31. Though old, I cry for the days of youth
Like a bereft lover crying for the departed

32. A wound heals when bandaged
And ruptures when left unwrapped

33. So if I hope, all is well
And if I despair, all is corrupt
