1. I stopped at the fateful event,
Bidding farewell to the departed hope,

2. He greeted me crying and I greeted him,
I was like one confounded and stunned,

3. The person of separation appeared before me,
I saw him like an enormous ghost,

4. Tears flowed after him,
Trickling from my swollen eyelids,

5. He went following his destiny,
And I cannot see him with the caravan,

6. It was as if I was looking behind him
At the setting of the waning planet,

7. He pities those crying in their misery,
With tears from one who is not neglectful,

8. I brought my tears to my eyes,
Stirrings of worries inside me,

9. I cry and I know that this crying,
Does not befit the reasonable in adversities,

10. For the tears have no purpose,
And behind the tears there is no use,

11. But a blaming, when overflowing,
Spilled over the coast,

12. Restrain the tears yet they won’t stop,
What a persistent occupation,

13. Falsehood has expired, and to God belongs,
What the right endures from the wrong,

14. O Lord, they wronged the deserving of their right,
And made the scholar equal to the ignorant,

15. I have not seen in all my life,
One who champions the right like a sword,

16. If a blemish, shameful as blood,
Befalls, who is there to wash it?

17. How can I be rescued amidst roaring waves,
With the sea like a crumbling mountain,

18. A typhoon and the night is dark,
And the planet has veered from the coast?
