Trying to span distances in a leap

8. We want from days glory abounding
Even if that glory is on the edge of flame

9. Take glory, but if you wear anything else
It is but a pattern, prey to decay

10. Some among them see policy in lying
Yet not every people is reassured by lies

11. The shepherds before destroyed their sheep
Oh Lord, a shepherd was worse than a wolf

12. I have long blamed my homeland
But days are deaf to blame

13. It got from its naive brothers
Until, contented, it said "enough for me"!

14. If it has traveled far from the eye of affection
Then it is not one of those who leave the heart

15. May God watch over this gathering, for it
Circled the protected one from all sides

16. The companions encircled him
As the eyelid encircles the discerning eye

17. I knew in the difficult position he had power
And a man's worth is known in the difficult position

18. If their principles one day resembled each other
A path of love would be between people's hearts

19. He has abundant wealth of traits
And how many are the tender leaves among dry plants

20. He is the spear protecting the right of a people who lost it
More decisive than the spear and more just

21. An Arab youth whose nature fits you
And the best trait in a man is what fits him

22. Sincere to Hezbollah on earth he belongs
And the greatest party on earth is God's party

23. The people's day will remain white and seeing
Even if a barrier of clouds comes between it and the sun

24. The earth has spirits and a shining sun
So oh its sun shine and oh its wind blow!

25. A group wanted bones to be like
But where is the calm, assured precipice?

26. Dear to all Iraqis
Is their brother Yunus the lamented writer

27. I wished I had on the day of his departure
Walked in the weakness that is in me with the caravan

28. If you want, stay away from your loved ones or draw near
For you are watched closely in distance and nearness

29. You will find hospitality in all lands
And settle in every country with ease

30. As for the people celebrating you
By my life, it is the people celebrating itself

31. Some people want you to bow your head silently
Until truth is buried in the dust

32. But the free man is one who speaks boldly
And walks alongside events side by side

33. The pilgrim-leader has leadership
A lantern guiding the lost on the road

34. If they threaten Yunus with exile or exile him
You will not see any trace of fear on his face

35. Neither threat nor promise could deter Yunus
From supporting the truth

36. If a writer does not liberate himself for his creed
There is no mending political disunity

37. I say to neighbors, do not gloat
For we are equal in tribulation and distress

38. The Arabs in the recent age are to themselves
More hostile, or rather, than the Arabs are to each other

39. And the greatest enemy of Arabism that it bore
Oh my sorrow for the Arabs grows every day

40. A reformer has not yet been born among the Arabs
