1. If a man does not strive for livelihood
Poverty soon afflicts him and vexes his friends

2. And he who had many a brother and kinsman
Will find even his family unwilling to know him

3. Then wander the lands of God and strive for wealth
And at evening you will dine well or die with endeavor

4. For he who seeks sustenance from all and sundry
Will live poorly unless he toils and strives

5. Do not be satisfied with a life without wealth
For how can he sleep at night who is fated to live long?
