1. In her right hand she stands independent,
Filling the horizons with promise and threat.

2. Whether she draws from his sea,
She inundates the earth with bounty and generosity.

3. Poverty if she promises or makes threats,
For the abundant dew and formidable might.

4. If he were to hurl meteors at her residence,
She would become at his highest gate throngs.

5. At times sustenance plentiful,
At others imminent death.

6. So if he sends her against the enemy,
He has readied in them armies.

7. And if she knots in the forehead
A crown of mighty sovereignty those knots.

8. And builds a glory rivaling the Nile
With splendor, sublimity, and immortality through her.

9. An armory in war and peace alike
Expanding discourse fuel or lethargy.

10. For in peace she is a pouring raincloud
Casting endless shade upon the land.

11. And in war a sharpened blade
Severing whoever opposes it veins.

12. So may the highest pen glory in her,
For it has again proven useful and restorative.

13. And may it attain splendor over the sorcery of the spear,
And sway with compassion if it sways poles.
