1. A sublime affliction and beautiful making
And a prosperous reign and plentiful reward

2. For that stirs the swell of sorrow
And this soothes excess anguish

3. And all people search for it
And every true heart aches

4. Since the sea of dew overflowed, tears
Have not ceased pouring upon it

5. And it is right for our eyelids to pour
And right for our bodies to toss and turn

6. If that affliction's news pained us
Then its end brought joy, that departure

7. From his palace to His palace
Blessed his wedding, restful his bed

8. Exchanged brief blessing
For lasting bliss, excellent the exchange

9. Compensated loss with lasting gain
Say to enemies, die in sorrow

10. And say to allies, cease your wailing
For he reached where he wished, ascended

11. To highest station, most blessed rest
And his Master granted him what he chose

12. And met his deeds with acceptance
So the party of guidance continues glorying

13. Through him, and misguidance disgraced
Sometimes he marches to their war

14. With blood spilling in every ravine
Other times readies an army against them

15. In every valley and plain a cohort
And he left among us, just Al-Rida

16. Great revered Imam and noble
Through him God united the rightly guided

17. And renewed the lofty glories decayed
We were lost without the Imam’s guidance

18. But he was for us the best guide
He stood to honor my God’s religion

19. So God was for him the best ally
Were it not for you, reviver of the revered

20. Sorrow would not have left our minds
And were it not for you, after him who

21. And for pardoning the repentant supplicant?
And who for struggle and night vigil

22. And for the sharp Yemeni blade?
And who for worship and who for lands?

23. And who for generosity and ample bounty?
God mended the rift of hearts

24. With a neighbor on that path
Who aids the destitute and checks the hostile

25. And gladdened many and best guarantor
The land shone after the darkening

26. Of that sunset and decline
He clothed Andalusia in his justice

27. In beauty with no match
And met all the armies of sorrow

28. With patience repelling hordes
You remain in your lofty reign

29. And endless blessings and trails
Of robes
