1. You claim love, then forget the beloved
In your claim, you are nothing but a liar

2. Love takes hold of the heart completely
Leaving no place for another

3. When the heart is touched by forgetfulness
Love's power becomes veiled

4. I have a beloved who answered me and called me
To him is the merit, both caller and responder

5. My nearness to him is the extent of my distance
So I see myself far, yet near

6. My being with him is my loss of self
And my presence, he sees as absent from me

7. Oh my soul, my tongue, remember him
Do not absent his remembrance and fail

8. Remembrance of him preceded remembrance from me
Many things I have seen reversed

9. And when you realize the rememberer and the remembered
Look, and you’ll find it a wondrous mystery

10. And in the best of creations is my bond and pride
My intercessor, the healer of every malady

11. So prayer upon him, then peace
Fill the heavens and earth with goodness.
