1. From the past ages, poetry was a collection,
Today, both old and young take pride in it,

2. The heritage of ancestors is a matter of pride over the days,
And a flag that fluttered dignity and melodies,

3. With it we rejoiced after the gathering of kin,
So blessed are the dwellers of meadows wherever they may be,

4. And in tears that weeping was blood,
When it flows in mourning for our dead,

5. And how much we delighted in reciting a verse!
A maiden who no human has ever glimpsed before,

6. And her reciter hopes for union with her,
Affirming the perfect rhyme as title:

7. If the specter of the mole-bearing one visited us sometimes,
While we are in the pits of graves at times,

8. These are her evident charms in speech,
A rain of eloquence some of whose clouds,

9. So create, if her recital contains a melody,
That mingles with the soul joys and sorrows

10. Knowledge, thought, literature and preaching
In a dignified garb throughout its days adorned,

11. We who gave it our affection
From it we planted in the mind of the new generation a garden

12. Allah revealed in it His honored inspiration
And Al-Mustafa firmly constructed the structure of grammar

13. In love of it we could not – despite our ability
Make this love a secret for our souls

14. Until we declared it openly everywhere
So blessed became this pronounced and proclaimed love

15. If our horses kneel, the letter “Dhaad” raises them
And if our sword shines, through it our status is exalted

16. What nation neglected a heritage through which it prospered
Except to tailor for it clothes of humiliation as shrouds

17. So restore, O sons of it, the glory of its past
Until we raise the links of “Dhaad” to high times

18. Its final fragrance comes from the scent of our Ahmed
May the God pray upon Taha the trustworthy one for as long

19. As hearts flutter and sands of mountains blow
