1. Iraq trusted in its joyous welcome
And the people were united in its independence

2. It has come to hope for the noblest goal
O Lord, let it attain the extent of its hopes

3. To liberation it aspires, for it is beloved
The longing, enamored watcher looks upon it

4. They told it, patience, though passion conquered
It answered them, without union there is no patience

5. They set a date for the days of reunion
But expectation's flaw is none but procrastination

6. It released the lovesick and freed its captives
Why then are they in shackles and imprisoned?

7. The peoples of earth regained their independence
Sweet hope its drink, its shade a fresh oasis

8. Shall the Iraqi people be deprived of their wish?
Things are judged by their like, as the maxim says

9. They won their due rights and its due rights too
By its competence and its men's resolve

10. If a rightful duty is performed, so be it
Else its recourse is to its heroes

11. Our Prophet's faith refuses dishonor
So follow the Prophet's faith and kin

12. That happiness in life is for the free
Honor comes from soul and wealth alike

13. The abject's life is death, and in death
Is the fullness of his life and perfection

14. When refuse trickles down a reed's hollow
The honey imbibes its sweetness from it

15. This age of civilization resembles
Past ages in its every aspect

16. Love of possession and conquest prevails
Justice is a mirage that soon fades

17. The strong tyrannize the weak, and if he complains
No one cares for his condition

18. Perhaps the allies' conduct toward it
Is laudable, erasing their foul deeds

19. We give rights and you take the honor that
Is the splendor of the age and its beauty

20. O essence of Arabs, who surpassed mankind
In noble lineage and deeds of glory

21. The stars of earth, though they are blooms
Are but witnesses to its traits and merits

22. From you came civilization and culture
And justice - you are its exemplar

23. This was your rise and ascent afterwards
The full moon grows after the crescent's curve
