1. Praise be to God for well-being
Pure praise of gratitude

2. Praise for blessings and boons
We have reached the end of hopes

3. We attained what we wished for in the land of Samarra
Where there is dew and the essence of sublimity

4. We walked while the gentle breeze guided
To Al-Askari and the Imam Al-Hadi

5. And the fruits of humankind blossomed
In the absence of the representative, Imam of the age

6. And how many hopes of creation are fulfilled
In the Kaaba dignified by the Proof

7. So O breeze of kindness, be accepting
In the blossom that seeks acceptance

8. And after him O Al-Jawad
Of glory that exceeds the glory of steeds

9. Though far I long and always remember
My master, if asked of my state

10. Without distance from you life would be a state
The eve and morn in your company lasted long

11. In the source of grace my flower thrived
With my prayer pleasing and my bouquet

12. My praise cannot match, nor my ornamentation
The sweetness in water and air

13. And likewise for melon and pulp
Both deliciously sweet and tempting

14. The lover and beloved they resemble
In color, allure, and fascination

15. And what a day when competition stood
Between them and long was the viewing

16. So the pulp rushed into the fray
Hastening in that arena

17. Saying I am the glorified essence
I am ruby and emerald

18. My color is crafted by the Creator
Like a cheek lined with down

19. This glow is like my redness
Its merit the people cannot deny

20. And my cool juice is for the thirsty
Quenching and prescribed for the ill

21. Many a hot summer day
I gave relief from the blazing heat

22. I saw the embers grow hotter
So I said: O embers, be cool

23. I am the exalted, the proud
So what do you have, melon?

24. The melon retorted while saying
The judicious have judged the contender

25. After a short while to take on the struggle
And leap like a lion when provoked

26. No pride but in one who when proud
Is believed by the wise men

27. The worst of people are pretenders
Boasting yet finding none convinced

28. And you, all people know
Little pulp but ample rind

29. I am the sweetest scent and taste
My breath comforts the grieving

30. Exuding musk and ambergris
My flavor told of honey and sugar

31. In body and color I recall the full moon
Can you claim such pride?

32. My form tells of independence
Then returns to its folk

33. While your flesh is hard to chew
Mine is soft and easy to swallow

34. No blade gains from you
Save unripe becoming futile

35. O Zubayri you lied and went astray
Your face darkened among the dunes

36. If my color showed some yellow
It is from the glow of devotion

37. Before the melon finished its speech
The pulp flared up in anger

38. And said: O melon you went too far
The dark cannot vie with the master

39. Time wronged the noble and betrayed
So the lowly coveted glory

40. But time in its scheme
Does not match the low with the lofty

41. Many a man of merit lost merit
Only his equal knows the virtuous

42. My name derived from softness
While yours echoes your nature, frozen

43. O burdensome, dense one
Can heavy equal wispy and light?

44. O you who inside has a mine for worms
Joining their white and black

45. How many died from you when asked
Would say: O melon, you squeezed out my life

46. God made healing in honey
Eat you with it, death results

47. The melon flared in rage
Like an enraged lion, provoked and alert

48. And said: O pulp, o pulp
O cold speech, o wretch

49. How did you roll into the fray
Racing when you're not one of my steeds

50. You who weaken the body of the eater
While my eater becomes bold and strong

51. I who before you am picked ripe
And you after me come as follower

52. Moist nature gets from you paralysis
Seeking relief, you meet hardship

53. Yes, you may soothe famished ribs
But cannot fill the pits of hunger

54. You attract the weak eater
With urine until the bowels settle

55. Had I stayed silent on people's faults
They would not be exposed before those seated

56. Respect people, and you will be respected
Scorn them, and you will live scorned

57. And the feud and discourse concluded
I have conveyed what transpired of words

58. While you, O virtuous one, are the best judge
