1. Baghdad, may its intimacy last, and may its good tidings return
Its glory and pride have come back to it

2. After its glory had nearly faded
And its fame was about to perish from negligence

3. Its misfortunes had long been dark
Until the full moon of Al Saud illuminated it

4. And the truly free arose with determination
As if they were roaring lions

5. They girded their loins and built
Nobilities that ascend high and raise its value

6. So do not let your soul be fooled by a tyrant
For none rules today except the free among its people

7. O you with stubborn opinions, times have changed
Despite grandeur, it sighs heavily

8. You are excused if you aspire for greatness
But how can the exalted be excused?

9. Only weep for a time now past
With bounty that was short-lived

10. No need of yours have you thanked it for
It would have lasted longer had you known thankfulness

11. Indeed when bad manners spread
Meanness and arrogance filled you

12. So leave the race courses for the noble
Who run well in it, charge and attack

13. Offices have been organized like necklaces
Adorning them are the best of deeds

14. As if they were gardens with flowers harvested
Or planets with shining stars

15. And the Jafari office where
The pearls of knowledge delight them

16. In it are noble youths whose ambitions
And minds and thoughts are sublime

17. Every bright mind kindles
A fire of brilliance that does not die down

18. Its foundations have been laid down by a band
Whose reward is guaranteed by God

19. To them, the efforts of the righteous are a joy
Bringing them delight and intoxication

20. They deserve every word of praise
Prose or poetry that reveals their light

21. Rise, O free men, and attain the heights
For its luxury desires you

22. And in seeking honor, persevere and be patient
For the leader of seekers has patience

23. The world only lasts with knowledge and discourse
Without them, nothing else avails or substitutes
