1. He who supported Hashim and made it clear,
He who asked protection from the exalted Eye,

2. And reenacted the tragedy of Karbala in Muharram
For viewers to hear and see,

3. It was a tale, and time in its length,
Did not do justice to our lament and anguish,

4. And today it revealed its sermons to viewers,
Can our hearts bear its burdens?

5. No, indeed our Mahdi's strength has faltered,
He who erected Hashim's pillars,

6. After it can Hashim's glory rise?
And the sermons, ruin demolished its building,

7. Cease heaping reproaches on the exalted ones,
Sorrows have plucked out the vines of its saplings,

8. Arwa was a shade for Hashim,
Where the stricken bewailed its branches,

9. And bright faces whose beauty it possessed,
Its sermons snatched away their colors,

10. Ruin took its leader, so its leader,
In him death bared its fangs,

11. Were you not an unassailable fortress,
And safety for the fearful, and its security and peace?

12. Delegations bowed to its court, so it weighed down
What its generosity made heavy its burdens,

13. No ears in its precincts hear,
Except praise embellishing its ears,

14. And today in your elegy a bard is heard,
Who nearly cannot recite for your calamity his tongue,

15. Through you days shone radiant joys,
And in the day you were lost, they donned sorrows,

16. In you the exalted sons saw glory for them,
Lasting, prolonging their tongues and fangs,

17. Until when sealed in your tomb, it bellowed
A ladder removing halters of calamities,

18. And it is right that nights spend wakefulness
Grieving, and through keening destroy their time,

19. As long as I live, grief will not console me,
Whose body folds over its sighs,

20. And a tragedy that has singled out all Quraysh,
With calamities, since it encompassed its Adnan,

21. It silenced the hearts of Muslims with its arrow,
When its sharpness struck their Quran,

22. He who informs the living ones of Amr al-Ala,
Beware that time betrayed him,

23. Its days cast at them with its caprices,
Disfiguring the majesty of its eras,

24. And folded for them in the belly of barren soil,
A sword whose sharpness splits its rocks,

25. Against whom do you rage, O Hashim, after him,
Where calamity bared its steeds?

26. Sheathe your sword and still your pen,
And the calamities have seized your right hand and made clear,

27. And watered a tomb containing Ja'far's mercy,
Hoping its pardon will forgive its sins.
