9. And whoever inclines towards a lion imagines
Its glance away from the fresh branch

10. And how can one willingly touch the edge of a sword
With a hand close to a moist branch

11. You were like me, so I became an Abū Nuwās
But far above the status of the debauched

12. And whoever is like the servants of his Lord
Lives among people without taxation

13. The fearful offender attained safety and treasured
The little gained by the pursuer and brother of the stranger

14. Do you have no equipment other than your might?
And no mount other than the greatest?

15. You tame the difficulties of days by force
And carry the wood of the cross

16. And you give your soul below the crown of the kingdom
Infatuated with alleviating worries

17. And you have tried kings, but no physician
Other than you healed the disease of the kingdom

18. So when the unworthy seized the emirate
The ministry cannot be contained by usurpation

19. The competent inherited it and required it
A kinsman qualified for it

20. Your talismans are your belts, so if
They dry in the presence of youth and old age

21. You were called to them in the cradles and returned
To you before assuming positions and mounting

22. And if the genies of the night were truthful to me
I would be passionately engrossed in wondrous humanity

23. With the two centuries of pen and parchment
Or the two religions of bowl and cup

24. I make the intellect excel over a wonderful phrase
So it makes me precede with a strange meaning
